As we gear up for our 30th anniversary of #FIDance As we gear up for our 30th anniversary of #FIDance, we'd like to extend a special shout-out to Founding Director Emeritus @hernandocortezjr.

Hernando and Denise Roberts Hurlin – then students at @purchasedance and members of @paultaylordance – mobilized a group of dancers in 1991 to create Dancers Responding to AIDS.

Fire Island Dance Festival was Hernando's idea. He had a share in the Pines and thought it would be a great place for a fundraiser. He was right!

#FIDanceFriday | Last summer, @alvinailey dancer a #FIDanceFriday | Last summer, @alvinailey dancer and choreographer Chalvar Monteiro presented the world premiere of "Into Me, See," a new work that examined community and closeness.

An ensemble of Alvin Ailey dancers – Patrick Coker (@pcoke), @shawn.cusseaux, Ashley Green (@awagreen98), Jacquelin Harris (@jacquelinh) and @hannahxrichardson – balanced grace and softness with Ailey’s signature athleticism in a flowing piece that echoed the brush of the Fire Island breeze.

Last summer, @abtofficial principal Catherine Hurl Last summer, @abtofficial principal Catherine Hurlin (@catehurlin) stunningly brought to life "The Dying Swan," a work that has been presented by some of the world’s most legendary ballerinas for more than a century.

The quiet desperation of the swan’s final moments were honored by Hurlin’s elegance and poise, as the crowd swelled in unison with the swan’s last breath.

@pacificnorthwestballet principal Jonathan Batista, @philadelphiaballet principal Nayara Lopes, Dylan Santos and Amanda Smith seamlessly teetered between elegant and explosive movement that mirrored the ever-changing tides of the bay behind them.

#FIDanceFriday | Last summer, @aydineyikan strippe #FIDanceFriday | Last summer, @aydineyikan stripped himself down to bare essentials–both metaphorically and literally–in @sillybillygriffin's intimate and joyful journey of self-discovery "Get Happy."

In a joyful exploration of pirouettes and flips, exquisite lines and extensions, Eyikan personified the exultant celebration that only comes with accepting your truest self.
